Nieva best technical delegate
Vice Chairperson of the AIBA Women's Commission Nieva Embuldeniya was
selected as the Best Technical Delegate from Asia for 2012 by the Asian
Boxing Confederation (ASBC). This honour follows Mrs. Embuldeniya's
appointment as the first female member of the competition jury at the
London Olympics 2012.
Nieva embarked on her career as a boxing official in 1986 as a
National Judge in Canada, and subsequently, through officiating many
tournaments, passed the International Examination in 1998 as a
Continental Official (Americas). Many international and continental
events later, she passed the International Amateur Boxing Association (AIBA)
examination, and became a certified World Judge in 2003.
Nieva has been a member of the AIBA Women's Commission since 1999,
and presently holds the post of Vice Chairperson, attending all AIBA
Commission and Asian Continental Commission meetings. She has also
served four years as an elected member of the Executive Committee of
AIBA representing Sri Lanka. She was instrumental in encouraging the
development of women's boxing in Sri Lanka, starting with the army in
2001, and extending to numerous schools, clubs and other armed forces.
Presently, Sri Lanka's female boxers have reached great heights,
standing on par with their international counterparts, victorious in
many regional and international tournaments. She has presently been
appointed as Technical Delegate to the Asian Youth Men's Championships
to be held in Philippines in March 2013 and the AIBA Junior/Youth
Women's Boxing Event in Sicily, Italy in May 2013. |
