Poorna and Pathum excel in drawn game

The under 19 match between Royal College, Colombo and St.Joseph College, Colombo ended in a draw at Darley Road yesterday.

St.Joseph’s College resuming their overnight score of 142 for 6 scored 172 in 53 overs. Pathum Madusanka made a fine half century inclusive of four boundaries while Fabian Fernando scored 30. Poorna Aluthge was the pick of the bowlers with 4 for 35 while Harith Samarasinghe and Anupa Tillekeratne bagged three wickets each respectively ( 3 for 50 and 3 for 35)

Royalists in their reply made 169 in 49 overs with the help of Poorna Aluthge(49), Imal Liyanage(33) and Hashen Ramanayake(25). Poorna had six boundaries and one six in his innings. He also top scored in the first innings with 50. Priyamal Perera was the most impressive among the bowlers with 5 for 52 ably supported by skipper Sachin Hewawasam (3 for 32). Royal were boosted with two fine partnerships. A 48 run partnership for the ninth wicket between Poorna Aluthge(49) and Lasith Embuldeniya(12) while Imal Liyanage(33) was involved in a 48 run partnership for the third wicket with Hashen Ramanayake(25).

Joes were 52 for 1 in at close when the game was interrupted by bad weather. Pathum Madusanka was unbeaten on 32 while Priyamal Perera hit 17.

This is the 200th match of the Josephian Scorer Cyril Nicholas who began his task as the official scorer of St.Joseph’s College in 2001.

Major honours for Peterites

A fine all round performance by St.Peter’s College Colombo paved them the way to bag a first innings win over the formidable D.S.Senananayke College in their under 19 match played at Kadirana yesterday.

D.S.Senanayake College continuing their overnight total of 93 for 9 were restricted to 125 runs in 51.5 overs.Uvin Bandara(38) and Shifran Mutaliph(50) were the main contributors for DSS.skipper Dushan Hemantha was the main destroyer with 7 for 36.

Peterites in their second innings amassed 228 runs in 58.1 overs with the help of Lahiru Milantha (52), Oshan Karunaratne(42) , Julian de Zilwa(36) and Kavinda de Tissera(26).

Milantha’s half century was studded with six hits to the ropes and two over it.

Harith Maduwantha bagged 3 wickets for 34 while Supun Madusanka took 2 wickets for 37.

DSS were struggling at 27 for 2 in 13 overs when the match was called off due to unfavourable weather. Chemila Obeyesekara captured 2 wickets for 5.

St.Peter’s : 205 in 48 overs and 228 in 58.1 overs ( Lahiru Milantha 52, Oshan Karunaratne 42, Kavinda de Tissera 26, Julian de Zilwa 36, Harith Maduwantha 3/34, Supun Madusanka 2/37)

DSS. : 125 (93 for 9 overnight) in 51.5 overs (Uvin Bandara 38, Shifran Mutaliph 50, Janith Liyanage 2 for 28, Dushan Hemantha 7 for 36) and 27 for 2 in 13 overs (Uvin Bandara 12, Chemila Obeyesekere 2 /5 )
