Man dies of jumbo attack

A 65- year - old man in Lunugamwehera died when he was attacked by an elephant at Unathuwewa on Monday. The victim was identified as M A Somadasa.

Meanwhile, a man died when he accidentally stepped into a trap gun in a jungle in Hasalaka.

The Police said M Wijebanda, 48, of Dungolla faced the mishap while taking his cattle into the jungle.

Iron thief behind bars

Nawagamuwa Police arrested a suspect who allegedly stole a stock of iron worth Rs 500,000 from a construction site in Andahena in Nawagamuwa.

The Police also seized the stolen iron from his possession.

The man was produced before the Kaduwela magistrate's court yesterday.

Three nabbed with cigarette stock

Three suspects were arrested by Veerambugedara Police with 122,000 illegally imported cigarettes while transporting it in a van in Piduruwella on Tuesday evening.

The suspects, residents of Hali Ela, Aranayake and Uhumeeya were produced before the Kurunegala Magistrate's Court.
