After Sujatha Diyani it’s Abheeta Diyaniya

Abheeta Diyaniya, another South Korean historical drama series is telecasting on Rupavahini Monday to Friday at 6.30 pm. The production functions under the guidance of Director, Film and Dubbing and Production Consultant, Editor and the Lyrics Composer Athula Rasnsirilal. Translated as The Jewel in the Crown, the original title of the series is Dong Yi . More than two hundred professional dubbing artistes contributed to this project.

The drama revolves round Dong Yi, is a bright and smart girl. Not only smart but also warm heart, she cannot pass poor person freely. After her father and brother were executed bitterly, she became an orphan. As police officer Seo Yongki chases her continuously she hides herself in Jangakwon, which is a music academy, with the help of Suli. With her born familiarity and wit, she is chosen as a helper in palace from the slave position.

Dong Yi happens to meet the ruler of Joseon, King Sook Jong by accident. King Suk Jong was absolute monarch of Joseon Dynasty. However, Dong Yi faces many obstacles in her life at the palace because of the Second Queen of the King. From start to finish, she opposes Dong yi. But, Dong Yi is always trusted by the First Queen of the King and helped by Cha Chun Soo, a member of Hanyang Gumgae a secret swordsman organization. Keeping the promise, he made to Dong Yi’s father, Cha Chun Soo takes care of and loves Dong Yi throughout his life. Later, Dong Yi had a son by the King and he became the 21st King of Joseon.

Dong Yi deals with universal themes that evolve around love and hatred, guilt and forgiving, justice and injustice, simplicity and complexity. The drama traces the tumultuous life of Dong Yi, who later rises to the position of royal concubine, Lady Choi Sook Bin, with her warm heart and wit. The background of the drama is based on a true historical story, which is set during 1683-1724.

Dong Yi describes the tradition of fine arts and music in ancient Korea. It also unveils the class differences which prevailed in Korea. The lowest class of Joseon dynasty “Chunmin” was ill-treated by the high class people and always had to face hardships. We are also introduced to Gumgae, a secret Chunmin class swordsman organization who fought against social injustice. It was filmed on location at MBC Drama located at Cheoin-gu, Yongin-si in Gyeonggi-do Province.

Above all, it is a story of a helpless girl, who faces unending challenges in her life courageously, yet genuinely and finally rewarded with love and the most superior social status of that time. Eventhough she is a character of the Korean history, Dong Yi will always be a role model for womenfolk even today.
