Janith and Sashen put Peterites in strong position

Two good knocks by Janith Liyanage(77) and Sashen Fernando(67) steered St.Peter’s College Colombo to a strong position on the first day of their under 19 match against Joseph Vaz College Wennappuwa which began at Bambalapitiya yesterday.

Taking the first lease of the wicket, Peterites piled up 286 runs in 67 overs.Janith Liyanage made a splendid half century (77) inclusive of four boundaries and four sixes while Sashen Fernando contributed with another half century(67) studded with four hits to the ropes and three over it.Kasun Vidura(3 for 57) and Asanka Ratnayake (2 for 56) were the most impressive for the visitors.

The Peterites were further boosted by a 135 run partnership for the second wicket between Sashen Fernando(67) and Janith Liyanage(77).

In reply, Joseph Vaz were not too happily placed at 118 for 4 in 31 overs at close.Skipper Kasun Vidura was the main contributor for Vazians with an unbeaten half century(67) while Primash Obris scored 26.Chrishan Fernando bagged 2 for 28.

Thomians shot out for 107

Fine bowling performance by Trinitian bowlers helped to bundle out S.Thomas’ College for 107 runs on the first day of their inter-school match at Mount Lavinia yesterday.

Sent into bat first S.Thomas were bundled out for just 107 runs in 51.1 overs. Thilaksha Sumanasiri (42) and skipper Javed Bongso (22) were the only batsmen to make a contribution. Lakshan Jayasinghe(3 for 17) was the main wrecker ably supported by Raveen Sayer took 2 for 32 while Charith Sudaraka captured 2 for 23

Trinity in reply were 34 for 1 at close.

S.Thomas’ : 107 in 51.1 overs (Javed Bongso 22, Thilaksha Sumanasiri 42, Lakshan Jayasinghe 3 for 17, Raveen Sayer 2 for 32, Charith Sudaraka 2 for 23)

Trinity : 34 for 1 in 14 overs (Lakshitha Dissanayake 21 n.o.)

Muditha(5 for 29) excels for Joes

A fine five wicket haul by Muditha Weerasinghe of St.Joseph’s College (5 for 29) was the highlight of the day one in the inter school under 19 match between St.Anthony’s College Katugastota and St.Joseph’s College Colombo commenced at Darley Road yesterday.

St.Anthony’s : 129 for 8 in 56.5 overs (Viraj Deepal 35, Nimesha Gunasinghe 24, Sachin Bulathsinhala 22, Moditha Weerasinghe 5 for 29)
