Fine on power pirate

A man who pirated electricity was fined Rs 10,000 by Gangodawila
Magistrate Ajith Masingha. He was also ordered to pay Rs 977,651.32 to
the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) as compensation.
The suspect a resident of Kalubowila had obtained electricity
illegally to his house.
CEB Special Investigation Unit officer P D Ajith and a team conducted
the raid.
Law College intake case on Monday

The Supreme Court postponed for Monday (18), the next call date for
the hearing of the petition filed by 50 petitioners against the current
year intake to the Law College for the year 2013.
Fly-over nearing completion

Construction work on the first fly-over at Gonnoruwa junction in
Hambantota is nearing completion.
It is 150 metres in length and 28 metres in width. It connects a four
lane high way.
Peduru party
The Old Anandian Centenary Group Peduru party will be held at the
Grand Ball Room, Optunent River Face Hotel, 166, Koswatte Road, Nawala,
Rajagiriya today from 7.30 pm.
Pinkama
A pinkama to invoke blessings on the President and the Security
Forces as a mark of gratitude for liberating the country from terrorism
will be held at Ruwanweli Seya, Anuradhapura on February 24.
It is organised by the Sumedha Pinsara Foundation and the Board of
Trustees of the Weherabendakutiya viharaya, said Viharadhipathi Ven
Welisara Jinawansatissa Thera.
Rotary District 3220 Conference
Rotary District 3220 Conference inaugurated at the Nelum Pokuna
Mahinda Rajapaksa Theatre yesterday evening, will be followed by a two
day confab at the BMICH.
The conference will be graced by leading Rotary International
dignitaries along with a number of key speakers covering a range of
topics.
Among the dignitaries attending the three day conference include RI
General Secretary John Hewko, RI Director and RI President's
representative Yash Pal D and President Kalyan Banerjee.
Journalists' meeting at Kolonnawa
The journalists organisation of Kolonnawa will hold a meeting on
February 17 at the TB Illangaratne Conference Hall, Kolonnawa.
Journalists in Kolonnawa are invited.
Olaboduwa Navam Pinkama
The Annual Navam pinkama of the Horana, Olaboduwa Sri Jayawardanarama
Viharaya will be held from February 15 to 25. The pinkama will be
inaugurated with a Sathi Pirith chanting beginning February 15. The
inaugural ceremony will be held under the patronage of President Mahinda
Rajapaksa.
A highlight of the pinkama will be the Randoli Perahera consisting of
the Budu Perahera and Vishnu Devala Perahera which will begin as a daily
feature on February 23.
Nearly 25 elephants and low country and up country dancers will be
featured in the perahera which will be witnessed by thousands of people.
All arrangements are being made by the organising committee headed by
Ven. Olaboduwe Dhammika Thera.
Cancer patient seeks assistance
H.M. Tulin of Talagahakoratuwa Galagama West, Nakulugamuwa is
suffering from liver cancer and is receiving native treatment at
present.
Her monthly medical bill is nearly Rs. 70,000. Her family is unable
to meet this bill since her husband is without a permanent job. She
requests financial assistance from philanthropists and the public to
help obtain further treatment to cure her illness.

1577428 at the Bank of Ceylon Dickwella Branch opened in the name of her
son P. L. Premalal.
Presidential Staff Chief's brother passes away
Ratna Sedera Senarath, brother of the Presidential Staff Chief and
Chairman of the People's Bank Gamini Senarath, passed away yesterday at
the age of 70. Ratna Sedera Senarath had his education at Mahinda
College, Galle and had been a planter by profession. He was actively
engaged in social service activites. The final rites will be held at
4.00 pm at the family burial grounds at Kebiliyapola, Hakmana. |
