break down Sri Lanka's highly held family bonds, which is the secret of

He made this observation at the annual prize giving ceremony of
Sirimavo Bandaranaike Vidyalaya, Colombo 7.
President Rajapaksa said the same forces that attempted to reverse
the country's victories after the three decade terrorism are attempting
to destroy the nation by these means.
He said breaking down family bonds will be a blow to the nation and
is stronger than artillery or similar attacks using sophisticated
weapons.
The President said Westerners who came to make Sri Lanka a colony
said family bonds in Sri Lanka are very rare among other countries.
"Some groups influenced by western forces are attempting to break
this down," he said.
President Rajapaksa said children should grow up protecting these
values.
He said he believed that the country is protected because of the
strong bonds in families in Sri Lanka.
The President said Sri Lankan children are not sent out of families
when they grow up, like in the West.
"All family members live together, including grand parents, aunts,
uncles etc in Sri Lanka," President Rajapaksa said.
The President said children should grow up protecting these values.
"Parents too have a pivotal role in protecting children," he said.
He said daughters have a significant role in bringing up the next
generation and transferring the culture from generation to generation.
Education Minister Bandula Gunawardena also spoke. |
