Modernized Visakha playground opens tomorrow

Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage will open the modernized playground of Visakha Vidyalaya tomorrow at 12.30 pm on the invitation of Education Minister Bandula Gunawardena.

The renovation of the playground took place under the patronage of the Sports Ministry upon the request of Education Minister Bandula Gunawardena.

First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa and Hambantota Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa had provided support in the renovation process.

Visakha Vidyalaya Principal S S K Aviruppola said the renovation cost nearly Rs 15 million with financial aid from the Sports Ministry and other sources.

The outer drainage system of the school was also renovated under this project. She added that with the modernization of the playground, schoolchildren will be able to practice in their own school and enhance their sporting skills.

The school sports meet will also be held after the opening of the playground.

The six houses - Dawes, Dias, Jayatilake, Motwani, Pulimood and Weerasooriya, vie for honours at the sports meet.
