Bens in first innings win over Peterites

St.Benedict’s College, Kotahena bagged a first innings win over the
strong St.Peter’s College in their inter-schools under 19 cricket
encounter concluded at Kotahena yesterday.
Peterites resuming their overnight score of 11 for 2 hit 147 for 8
declared in 33.2 overs. Kavinda Tissera scored a fine 44. Shasheen
Fernando(35) and Oshan Karunaratne (33) also made useful
contributions.Chandana Jayasanka captured 3 for 43 while Sithum
Wijesinghe bagged 2 for 38.
Bens batting the second time scored 106 for 4 in 44 overs with the
help of Mahel Jayalath(26), Sameera Sandamal(24) and Madura Madusanka
(26 not out).Chrishan Fernando took 2 for 29.

An unbeaten 98 by skipper Prasansana Jayamanne helped Maris Stella
College Negombo to claim a first innings win against the more fancied
Mahanama College Colombo in their match played at Kadirana yesterday.
Replying to Mahanama’s first innings score of 167. the Maristonians
piled up 254 for 9 wickets helped by a superb knock of 98 not out by
Prasansana Jayamanne ably supported by Shehan Chathuranga (35), Shanaka
Srimal(36) and Nalaka de Silva(25).Mahanama’s Dinuka Chamath bowled his
heart out to capture 4 wickets for 62

Narrow shave for Nalanda
Time saved Nalanda from certain defeat in their under 19 inter school
cricket match concluded at Campbell Place yesterday.
Replying to the visitors first innings score of 285 for 9, the
Nalandians couldn’t cope with the fiery pace of Binura Fernando (8 for
24) and were bundled out for 43 runs.
Following on 242 runs behind on the first innings, the lads from
Campbell Place were reeling at 111 for 8 in 57 overs with Avishka Silva
(30)being the only batsman to offer any resistance . Once again Binura
Fernando bowled well to take 3 for 93 which gave him a match bag of 11
wickets for 117.
