pits to be refilled

The National Gem and Jewellery Authority will refill gem pits left
uncovered by gem miners in Ratnapura district, chairman Prasad Galhena
said.
He said uncovered gem pits will be covered following the death of a
child after falling into an uncovered gem pit recently.
He said said there are 263 uncovered gem pits in the Ratnapura
district.
Call to replace ambulance

The 20 - year - old ambulance at Kariyamaditta Hospital in the
Hambantota district needs to be replaced, patients and their relatives
said.
They said it breaks down while on its way to distant hospitals with
patients in critical condition.
Kariyamaditta Hospital medical officer Dr D M P Rajapaksa said this
has been brought to the notice of the authorities.
Two die clearing quarry

Two persons died when a rock fell on them while clearing a stone
quarry at Baduwaththa, Hanwella yesterday afternoon. Hanwella Police
said the victims were pronounced dead on admission to the Padukka
hospital. Twenty six year old G A S N Godagedara of Malwala, Ratnapura
and 37 year old S C Silva of Godigamuwa , Gonapola faced the mishap
while clearing a stone quarry that had been shut down.
NHDA felicitation ceremony

The National Housing Development Authority (NHDA) for the first time
will felicitate 617 workers,including 10 for longstanding service on a
February 13 at the Maharagama Youth Theatre. Construction, Engineering
Services, Housing and Common Amenities Minister Wimal Weerawansa will be
the Chief Guest on the occasion.
National Housing Development Authority (NHDA) was established in
1976. But there was no any felicitation Ceremony conducted through out
the history of the NHDA.
Turtle eggs found

Acting on information received, STF officers attached to Ambalantota
Camp found a polythene bag with 40 turtle eggs in it at Godawaya beach
in Ambalantota. The turtle eggs were handed over to Kalamatiya Wild Life
office.
