Floods as rains lash Eastern Province

Several low lying areas in the Eastern Province were flooded for the
fourth time this year, following heavy rains experienced since Monday.
Several houses in the Ampara and Batticaloa districts were partially
damaged after a mini - tornado hit the areas on Monday evening.
Thousands of acres of paddy have been inundated due to rains in
Ampara, Batticaloa and Trincomalee districts.
Several villagrs, roads, lands, schools, playgrounds and houses have
gone underwater.
The water level of all tanks in the province has risen. Several
large, medium and small scale tanks in the Eastern Province reached
spill level on account of the heavy rains.
Fishermen were unable to go deep sea fishing due to the adverse
weather conditions.
