Four thousand Grama Niladharis to be recruited

All arrangements are in place to recruit 4,000 new Grama Niladharis to the government service in the near future to fill Grama Niladharis' vacancies island wide, Public Administration and Home Affairs Minister W.D.J.Seneviratne said.

"At present, we have observed that some Grama Niladharis have to handle more than one Grama Division. This can be be a very difficult task as experienced during the last few months when they had to handle two, three Grama Divisions due to natural disasters like floods and landslides. Handling a number of Grama Divisions by a Grama Niladhari is not practical.", he added.

"Grama Niladharis which are to be recruited this year will be assigned to the Grama Divisions outside their places of residency. During the recent floods and landslides, several Grama Niladharis were also affected.

In such situations, it makes it difficult for them to carry out their duties. Therefore, the Public Administration and Home Affairs Ministry has decided to appoint new Grama Niladharis,' Minister Seneviratne further said.
