Dhawala Bheeshana in town
The play Dhawala Bheeshana will be staged again in Colombo on
February 16 at Lionel Wendt Theatre after its successful performances at
15th Bharat Rang Mahotsav in New Delhi, India. This is the first time
the play will go on boards the Lionel Wendt after their opening on
September 1, 2012.
Dhawala Bheeshana is the Sinhalese translation of the play Men
without Shadows by French playwright Jean-Paul Sartre. This play was
first produced in year 1988 by acclaimed Sri Lankan theatre director
Dharmasiri Bandaranayake. The original script was translated to Sinhala
by Ciril C Perera and the music is composed by Dr. Premasiri Kemadasa.
The play was re-produced in 2012 and was selected as the Sri Lankan
representation for the 15th Bharat Rang Mahotsav. This is an
international theatre festival organised annually by the National School
of Drama in association with the Indian government. Dhawala Bheeshana
was selected to perform in the main festival in Delhi as well as in
theparallel festival in Jaipur, Rajasthan. The two performances held in
11th and 13th January were wellreceived by the audiences earning a
standing ovation for the performance held in Jaipur.
Dhawala Bheeshana will be staged at Shreepali Rangahala, Horana, on
March 15, Town Hall, Panadura, on March 17, TownHall, Ratnapura, on
March 22 and Weerasingham Hall, Jaffna on March 29. Tamil subtitles of
the play will be displayed during the performance in Jaffna.

Dayawansha Jayakody for his 50 year contribution to the Sri
Lankan literary scene. Ven Kollupitiya Sangarakkitha thera
of Kelani Rajamaha Vihara, Dr Leel Gunasekara, Jayakody
Seneviratne, Prabath Mirihagalla and Jamayanthi Jayakody
