Rajans field a strong team this year

Dharmaraja College, Kandy is famous for producing pace bowlers in the
past. Among them were Sonny Yatawara, T.B. Kehelgamuwa, Ananda
Jayasundera, S.U. Mendis and Mahinda Pethiyagoda to name a few.
Dharmaraja is one of the oldest schools playing cricket and they have
been in the game for well over 100 years.
The only Test player the school has produced is Chamara Kapugedara.
Apart from him the school has produced players like T.B. Talwatta P.L.A.
Alwis, S. Randeniya, Senaka Dissanayake, Ravi Rajapakse, D.D.P. Alwis,
D.D.C. Alwis, Siri Ranasinghe, Rukshan Suriarachchi, Chapa Weeraratne,
Priyantha Weragoda, Priyantha Talwatta, Dhammika Vithanage, Prasanna
Walalawala, Mihira Wijesinghe, Senarath Alwis, Janaka Tennakoon, Thilina
Tennakoon and G.S. Ratnayake to name a few out of so many outstanding
players produced by the school.
In the last all island tournament Dharmaraja won was when they won
the Lemonade Trophy in the year 2003. In the years 2011 and 2012 they
won their 'Big Match' against Kingswood under Hemal Munaweera and Viraj
Karaputugala.

This year Dharmaraja is led by Nuwan Karunaratne who is one of the
best all rounders in the schools. He sored over 500 runs and took over
50 wickets last year. His deputy Aravinda Withanachchi a fourth year
player who took over 100 wickets last year.
Lochana Wijesiri is also another fourth year player who is a
front-line Batsman. Denath Lanka is a fine all rounder who is a third
year player. Kavinda Ratnayake second year player, who scored a
magnificent 99 against Nalanda last week. Rameesh Ranasinghe wicket
keeper and opening batsman. Jayapadma Tennakoon and Chandimal de Silva
two fine all rounder are second year players Kaveesha Dissanayake,
Lakshan Silva, Dinuk Prabath, Sasith Abeykoon are also second year
players' rest of the players are freshers.
There are 21 matches in the cricket fixtures and they are playing
their 'Big match' against Kingswood for the TB Tennakoon Trophy on their
22nd and 23rd of march 2013 at Asgiriya International Grounds. The
limited over match will be played on 30th March, 2013 at the same venue.
Rajans are coached by Ananda Wijesekera who led Dharmaraja in 1971
master in charge is Sarath Ekanayke and the prefect of games is Col.
