Premier League Tournament:

Dimuth steers SSC with unbeaten ton

Sri Lanka Test opener Dimuth Karunaratne smashed an unbeaten century in the victorious SSC as the home team beat Badureliya Sports Club by six wickets in their Premier League match concluded at the SSC grounds yesterday.

The 24-year-old left hander cracked a dozen fours in his belligerent knock which associated two useful partnerships. Karunaratne forged a 105-run stand for the third wicket with veteran Thilan Samaraweera, who scored 57 runs.

Resuming from the overnight score of 66 with no loss, SSC lost Paranavithana early as he was run out for 33. Badureliya SC’s Saliya Jeewantha picked up two wickets adding to his magnificent performance of eight wickets for 53 in the first innings. The six-footer, right arm fast bowler ended his figures two for 52 with a match-bag of ten wickets for 105.

Badureliya SC: 227 in 68.3 overs (Pabasara Waduge 59, Mapa Bandara 50, Kasun Madusanka 4/39, Sachithra Senanayake 3/72) and 119 in 39.4 overs (Nilushan Nonis 30, PabasaraWaduge 27, Dhammika Prasad 4/20, Charith Jayampathi 2/18).

Tharindu, Angelo excel

Sri Lanka’s newest spin sensation Tharindu Kaushal bagged a five wicket haul and fringe batsman Angelo Perera hammered a century in the NCC’s massive 289-run win over Chilaw Marians in their Prelimer League match concluded at the NCC grounds yesterday.

Chilaw Marians set a target of 386 and were bowled out for pathetic 96. Kaushal, who had seven wickets in the first innings, bagged another five ending as a remarkable match forhim with a dozen wickets for 91 runs. The right arm off spinner, who has got a vicious doosra in his armoury, became the leading wicket taker in the tournament so far, having 19 wickets ahead of 17 wickets picked up by Saliya Jeewantha of Badureliya SC.

Twenty-three-year-old Angelo Perera, who has been a fine performer in the recent domestic circuit hit a 77-ball unbeaten 100 when NCC set a massive 386 target to Marians. Perera had an unbeaten 157-run partnership for the fourth wicket with Dinesh Chandimal, who scored 70. The former St Peter’s College batsman became the second highest run getter with 307 runs in 261 ball with a stunning average of 153.
