First multi - technological training institute opens today

Multi technological training institutes would be set up in schools for practical exercises for the newly introduced ‘Technology’ subject stream of the Advanced Level Examination, said Youth Affairs and Skills Development Minister Dullas Alahapperuma.

The first ever multi technological training institute is to be opened in Ananda College, Colombo today. The minister observed these institutes would help to direct 40 percent of the school children to industrial education.

He observed this move would be a successful solution for the unemployment among youth.

“In developed countries, at least 40 percent who complete school education follow industrial education. In our country, this percentage is 16 percent at present. It is a national necessity at least to double this rate. If not the country’s development will be affected” he added. In addition to the Arts, Commerce, Science and Maths streams, the government recently introduced the Technology stream for the Advanced Level to cater to rising demands in the world job market.
