Another group of boat people detected

The Navy arrested another group of boat people who were Australia bound on Tuesday.

Sri Lanka Navy Media Unit sources said the Navy arrested 54 persons along with a multi-day fishing trawler. The trawler Kalyani was intercepted 12 nautical miles east of Kalmunai by a fast naval patrol craft attached to the Eastern Naval Command.

The arrested persons included 40 men, six women and eight children who were transferred to Trincomalee by the CID for further investigations.
