Neluwa to be developed under Pura Neguma programme

At the monthly meeting of the Neluwa Pradeshiya Sabha, Chairman M.I.G. Sunil tabling the budget proposals said that the PS had done much for the development of the rural areas last year. This year the PS expects to develop the Neluwa town under the Pura Neguma programme for which an allocation of Rs. 50 million has been funded by the government.

Foundation stone laying ceremony

Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa will lay the foundation stone for an urban housing scheme consisting of 1,776 housing units for low income tenants in Kolambage Mawatha, Nawala today. The project will cost Rs 1,442 million.

Beneficiaries of the project are low income families in and around Colombo. The scheme will comprise a 12 storied housing complex with six blocks.

The project will be implemented under the direction of the Defence Secretary. Each housing unit will consist of two bed rooms, a kitchen, a dining room, a balcony and an attached bathroom.

It has been planned to complete the project in 33 months. The Indian company VGC and the National Housing Development Authority will be in charge of the project.

Book launch

A book, Raajya Arthikaya Saha Videsha Velandaama (State Economy and Foreign Trade) written by Ranasinghe Kaluarachchi, a senior Economics teacher will be launched at the auditorium of Kalahe Sri Sumangala Vidyala, Galle today at 3.00 pm. The launching ceremony will be held under the patronage of Southern Provincial Councillor Ven. Dr. Baddegama Samitha Thera while the introductory speech will be delivered by Prof. Ven. Vilegoda Ariyadeva thera of Pali and Buddhist faculty of Ruhunu University.

Service of praise and worship

A service of “Praise and Worship” will be held on February 10 at 10.30 am at the Cathedral of Christ the Living Saviour, Bauddhaloka Mawatha Colombo 7. The speaker and minister will be Vijaya Corea who will speak on “Why the wicked prosper while the righteous suffer”.

Kariyakarawana's book launch

Lo Pura Charika, the latest book written by journalist D F Kariyakarawana will be launched today to mark his 91st birthday. A former Editor of Janatha, Kariyakarawana is the Patron of the Sri Lanka Pathra Kala Sangamaya and Indo- Sri Lanka Media Friendship Organisation.

Certificate awarding ceremony

The Centre for the Study of Human Rights, University of Colombo will hold its certificate awarding ceremony at the Faculty of Graduate Studies, University of Colombo today.

Those who successfully completed their academic requirements will receive certificates at the ceremony.

Graphic design workshop

A workshop style seminar on graphic design and multimedia education organised by the Sri Lanka Institute of Printing will be held on February 10 from 8.30 am to 2.30 pm at the institute premises.

The seminar intends to provide an exposure and understanding of the use of essential graphic software packages used in the industry. The seminar also intends to guide school leavers and other professionals who wish to gain knowledge in graphic designing skills to use them in day to day work and presentations.
