Greek bond issue fixed for March 5

The Supreme Court yesterday fixed the application filed in respect of the Rs 3,472,576,045 Greek government bonds and investment issue for support on March 5.

The Bench comprised Chief Justice Mohan Peris, Justice Sri Pavan and Justice Eva Wanasundera.

The petitioner is UNP Parliamentarian Sujeewa Arjuna Senasinghe.

Among the eight respondents cited are Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabral, the Treasury Secretary, the Monetary Board and the Attorney General.

The petition inter alia states that due to the transaction, the country incurred a financial loss.

The transaction from secondary markets was effected through intermediaries cited as Morgan Stanley, Jeffries & Co Inc and Commez Bank.

The transaction was effected with callous disregard to Sri Lanka citizens and with corrupt and malicious intent for personal gains.

Paul Ratnayake Associates were the Attorney at Law for the petitioner.
