Divineguma deposits THROUGH THE ROOF

* 300,000 new accounts opened

* Low income families to benefit

The Regional Development Bank (RDB) succeeded in opening 300,000 new Divineguma bank accounts within one year. “Being the official banker of Divineguma, the Regional Development Bank’s success in opening around 300,000 accounts should be commended,” Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa said.

“The most laudable fact is that all these accounts were opened by members of low income families and small and middle scale entrepreneurs who strive hard to overcome economic barriers,” the minister said.

Regional Development Bank Chairperson Keshala Jayawardena said the Rs 280 million deposited by account holders would be utilised only for the advancement of small and medium scale entrepreneurs. Divineguma covers a wide area including the Ranawiri Divineguma and lottery Divineguma islandwide.

Any entrepreneur who aspires to be part of the Divineguama account can open an account anywhere in the country.

They would benefit with a number of priviledges by being a part of the project, RDB General Manager and Chief Executive Officer Rathnasiri Siriwardena said.
