Power for rural areas

Electricity will be provided to residents of Panashaye Kanuva and Panahathare Kanuwa-Bimmalamulla Road. Two rural electricity distribution projects were launched to provide electricity to the two areas recently.


Ticket less train travelers fined

Railway Security officials earned over Rs 10,467,133 as fines from sudden inspections conducted in trains last year. Railway Department Commercial Superintendent G W S Sisira Kumara said the raids were carried out covering all three railway zones of Colombo, Nawalapitiya and Anuradhapura.


Development projects

A total of 126 development schemes costing Rs 106.8 million were completed in the Bandaragama Divisional Secretariat division last year, said Bandaragama Pradeshiya Sabha chairman Manoj Sanjaya Hettige. Among them were 89 roads and two pre- schools.


Workshop

The College of Ophthalmologists of Sri Lanka will conduct a workshop on Updates on Ophthalmologists for Primary Care Physicians/ General Practioners on February 10 from 9 am to 1.30 pm at the National Blood Bank Auditorium, Narahenpita.

Closing date for applications

The closing date for applications for the Master of Education Degree conducted by the National Institute of Education is extended to 20.02.2013, states a NIE media release.


Blood donation

A blood donation campaign will be held at 9 am today at the Chief Minister's Secretariat jointly organised by the Karuna Samadhi Foundation and Agriculture Industries and Environment Ministry of the Western Province.

Today also marks the 43rd birthday of Western Provincial Council Minister Udaya Gammanpila.


Lecture

Shaykh Imadeed Abu Hijleh, founder of Al Razi Institute in Boston, Massachusettes, will deliver a lecture with a questions and answer session on Spirituality on February 11 at the Marine Grand Banquet Hall, Colombo 6 at 8 pm.
