Self sufficiency in five years:
Rs 90 bn boost for sugar industry
A mammoth sum of Rs. 90 billion would be pumped
by the private sector to help make Sri Lanka self sufficient in
sugar in five years. This includes setting up and resurrecting the
abandoned Kantale Sugar Factory. In addtion plans are on to set up
15 new sugar cane factories.

IFC AMC invests US$ 75 mn in ComBank to support small businesses
IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, is
investing $75 million (approximately Rs 9.6 billion) in Commercial
Bank of Ceylon PLC, through a fund managed by its Asset Management
Company (AMC), to expand Commercial Bank’s operations and increase
access to finance for small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

Lankan Trade Expo in Oman from Feb 12
Arrangements have been initiated to hold the Sri
Lankan Trade Exhibition and Food Festival at the Alfalaj Hotel in
Muscat from February 12-14, on a grand scale, Sri Lanka's Ambassador
in Oman, Asoka Girihagama said.
