The Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities
Ministry will spend Rs 120 million for housing development of the
Trincomalee district this year, said minister Wimal Weerawansa.
The minister was speaking after opening two Janasewana housing
schemes in Kawantissapura and Mahindapura in Trincomalee.
He said “when we met people in the North and East, they requested to
fulfill their housing dreams and provide education facilities for their
children. But if we had met these people during the war, their only
dream could have been to evade the war. Massacres were common in that
era. The leadership of President Mahinda Rajapaksa solved the problem.
Now they live freely and they want to get the benefits of development
activities.”
The minister said although Trincomalee people are reaping the
benefits of peaceful situation in the country, a few unpatriotic persons
in Colombo say that Sri Lanka is not a democratic country. They want to
present a bad picture of the country to the world and make the country
unstable, he said.
