All graduates who received state sector appointments last year will
be made permanent at the end of this year. The Public Administration and
Home Affairs Ministry will make permanent over 50,000 graduates who were
recruited to the state service last year.
A ministry spokesman said that the ministry has recruited around
52,000 graduates to the government service and will enroll them to the
the permanent cadre by the end of this year.
The first batch recruited last February will be made permanent before
the end of this month, he added. Others will also be made permanent once
they successfully complete one year’s training in the public
administration sector.
According to the Public Administration and Home Affairs Minister W.
D. J. Seneviratne they have recruited around 53,000 graduates to the
government service from all 25 administrative districts. Some of them
who had passed the teaching examination and other competitive
examinations have joined other services.
There are 50,821 newly recruited graduates working in their positions
and they will be made permanent by the end of this year.
“We have recruited 6,778 from Kurunegala, 4,169 from Galle, 4,083
from Matara and 1,778 form Jaffna. We have covered 21 other districts as
well.
Recruiting over 50,000 graduates to the government service was a
great challenge to us. However, we have overcome that challenge.
“All these efforts are to make the public service more effective,
efficient and people-friendly. We believe that these new recruits will
work with dedication to help the country’s development drive ”, the
minister said.
