Over 63 per cent qualify for University admission

According to the Advanced Level Examination (new syllabus) results of
school candidates last year, 8,412 students out of 196,954 who sat for
the examination have obtained 'A' grades for all three main subjects.
The average rate of students who qualified for university admissions
island wide was 63.15 and the corresponding figure was 124,377.
At the same time, 15,134 students have failed in all subjects.
When analyzing school candidates' results provincial wise, the
Sabaragamuwa, Uva and Southern Provinces have recorded the first, second
and third ranks respectively maintaining higher percentages for students
qualified for University admission.
Compared with the rest of the Provinces, the Western Province was in
seventh rank with 33,587 students from a total of 53,594 students
qualifying for university admission.
About 3,349 students in the Western Province have obtained 'A' grades
for all three subjects, while 4,529 have failed in all subjects.
Among the 10,865 students who sat for the A-L examination from the
Northern Province, 6,828 have qualified for University admission and
this percentage was 62.84. One hundred ninety nine students in this
province have obtained 'A' grades for all three subjects, while 852 have
failed in all subjects.
In the Eastern Province, 8,154 students from a total of 13,376
students who sat for the examination have qualified for University
admission. As a percentage this was 60.96.
Two hundred forty six students in the Eastern Province have obtained
'A' grades for all three main subjects, while 869 students have failed
in all subjects.
