Jayasuriya heads five-member SLC selection committee
Sri Lanka’s new national selection committee, headed by Sanath

yesterday.

The five-member selection panel also included Pramodya Wickramasinghe,
Hemantha Wickramaratne, Chaminda Mendis and Eric Upashantha.
Sanath Jayasuriya, a legend of Sri Lanka cricket, was a key player
behind Sri Lanka’s 1996 World Cup victory, being the Player of the
tournament. The 43-year-old Parliamentarian Jayasuriya will be assisted
by a member of 1996 World Cup team, former fast bowler Pramodya
Wickramasinghe. Former national cricketers Hemantha Wickramaratne,
Chaminda Mendis and former Test cap Eric Upashantha.
Jayasuriya said that he is looking to get the services of up and
coming young cricketers in the domestic arena to the national side.
“I am looking forward to start a new journey with young talents to
steer Sri Lanka cricket to the winning streak without hurting anyone,”
said the Master Blaster.
Jayasuriya captained Sri Lanka Test team with distinct, recording a
56 percent winning ratio, highest by any Sri Lankan Test captain.
Sri Lanka recorded 10 consecutive Test wins under Jayasuriya’s
captaincy between 1999 to 2003.
