EDUCATION

ESOFT new intake for BCS courses begins

ESOFT Institute of Higher Education is currently in the process of recruiting new students for the BCS – Higher Education Qualifications courses – the Certificate in IT, the Diploma in IT and the Professional Graduate Diploma in IT, conducted by the British Computer Society (BCS), the Chartered Institute of IT.

The BCS conducts the examinations for these courses in the coming October. Students who have passed the G.C.E. (Advanced Level) examination and the students who have sat for this year’s G.C.E. (Ordinary Level) examination are eligible to apply for these courses and this is a good opportunity for them to follow an internationally accepted degree course.

BCS holds convocation every year and about 500 Sri Lankan students are awarded their Diploma and Degree certificates at that convocation.

ESOFT, the largest higher education institution with 40 branches island-wide where all educational programmes pertaining to the information and communications technology could be followed at very competitive rates, is conducting BCS Higher Education Qualifications courses from the year 2000. ESOFT Students bagged the best results at BCS Convocation in the years 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 consecutively.

BCS has awarded the Accredited Course Provider Certificate to ESOFT to conduct BCS educational programmes in Sri Lanka. They have given this certification pertaining to the Certificate in IT course, the Diploma in IT course and the Professional Graduate Diploma in IT course after observing the number of students following the BCS Higher Education Qualifications courses at ESOFT, results obtained, institutional facilities and the qualifications of the panel of lecturers.

BCS is conducting examinations for BCS Higher Education Qualifications in many other countries of the world as well as in Sri Lanka. The higher education qualifications that could be obtained from BCS are the Certificate in IT, the Diploma in IT and the Professional Graduate Diploma in IT. The University Grants Commission of Sri Lanka have officially accepted the Professional Graduate Diploma in IT, a higher education qualification of the BCS, as a pre-qualification to register for a Master in Computer Science (M.Sc) Degree, a Master in Information Technology (MIT) Degree or a Master in Business Administration (MBA) Degree in a Sri Lankan university.

Other than that, students who complete the Professional Graduate Diploma in IT could register to follow a post-graduate degree course in a university in Great Britain. Accordingly, the BCS Professional Graduate Diploma in IT course is the only course that enables students to obtain an information technology degree in a very short time of two years and register for a post-graduate degree course.
