Ministry pushes eco-friendly development
The Economic Ministry provided financial and technical assistance for
102 local councils to facilitate the implementation of the country's
environment friendly development programmes, said Minister Anura
Priyadarshana Yapa.
He was addressing a meeting at the CEA head office in Battaramulla to
mark the distribution of tractors among 77 local institutions on
Tuesday.
Minister Yapa said that Colombo is being transformed into a beautiful
city. People should try to transform their areas into beautiful towns
and villages in line with the Colombo city.
The Minister said that the first sanitary landfill coming up in Dompe
can be portrayed as a successful application of modern environmental
management technique of the country's environmental management system.
Any interested person or institution is free to visit this site on a
study tour. He said that similar landfills are envisaged in Anuradhapura,
Hikkaduwa and Panadura. It will help resolve garbage problems in the
those areas.
