ITF 14 and under, Development Championship:
Lankans taste mixed fourtune
Sri Lankan junior tennis players participating at the ITF Development
Championship 2013, 14 and Under Division II commenced on January 14 in
Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam performed well in the preliminary rounds and tasted
mixed fortunes in yesterday's ties.
In the girls' category, Rukshika Wijesuriya registered three
victories against Seah Charmaine (SIN) 10-5, Naviad Hania (PAK) 10-6 and
Joya Rabaka Sultana (BAN) 10-2 while Medira Samarasinghe won two ties
beating Goh Yee Loon (SIN) 10-7 and Vaziri Sadaf Sadegh (IRA) 10-7.
Medira lost her third tie to Nguyen Tiffany Linh (VIE) 8-10. Serena
Madanayake came up with a solitary win as she beat Napalian Rana Mayanka
10-5.
Meanwhile in the boys' category matches Andrew Muttiah defeated
hisYeman opponent Alward Fahmi 10-5 and also beat Dorij Tenzin of
Bhutan10-6 in the other match. Aadavan Pushparaj beat Bangladesh player
Khan Md Mahin Reja 10-6 but lost his remaining two matches against Kuah
Timothy of Singapore 2-10 and Viatnam lad Nguyen Dinh Khoi 11-9.
Jerique Rajapakse posted an easy win over Maldivian Altif Yuhaan
trouncing him 10-3.
The tournament will continue till January 25 and the seven-member
local contingent is expected to perform well in the forthcoming matches.
