Burglars posed as cops

Nine suspects who posed as policemen and entered houses in several cities at night and stole cash and valuables at gunpoint, were arrested by the Mirihana Special Crime Operations Unit at a house in Navagamuwa on Monday.

The Police also seized a locally made shot gun, three laptops, four wrist watches, two cameras and part of the gold jewellery from the possession of the suspects .

The suspects were arrested after they robbed cash and valuables worth Rs 283,000 from a house in Padukka.

The suspects under interrogation said they had broken into houses in Kadawatha, Grandpass, Dehiwala, Wattala and Wellampitiya on several occasions. They were detained for further questioning.
