Alternative land for flood-hit

One thousand families whose dwellings are affected by floods every year due to the Malwathuoya overflowing its banks, will be provided alternative land in Katukeliyawa and its environs close to Anuradhapura city for resettlement.

The lands they currently reside, which get affected by floods will be restricted for cultivation purposes only, North Central Province Chief Minister S M Ranjith Samarakoon said.

Safe lands have been identified for this purpose, he said.
