Canned fish unfit for human consumption seized

The Consumer Affairs Authority Flying Squad yesterday, raided a warehouse in Nawanuge Road, Peliyagoda and seized 50,000 tins of canned fish which were not fit for human consumption.

The seized tins of canned fish were in the weight ranges of 155g, 230g, 425g and 850g, while the total value has been estimated to be Rs. 5 million.

Packaging of seized tins of canned fish imported from Chile had been damaged due to air exposure, which had resulted in creating harmful oxide to the ingredients of canned fish and harmful for human consumption.

Meanwhile, Co-operatives and Internal Minister Johnston Fernando has instructed CAA officials to take legal action against the trader.
