Parents should give a sound education to their children. Education is
not merely passing exams. It is a lifelong process, said Nasa scientist
Dr Sarath Gunapala.
He was addressing a felicitating ceremony at Siriwardena Maha
Vidyalaya, Yatiyantota, organized by the Yatiyantota Pradeshiya Sabha,
students and teachers of Siriwardena Maha Vidyalaya recently.
Dr Gunapala said that Americans say that technology is their future.
Countries, including Sri Lanka, are showing great interest in this
field. “Though we are a developing country we possess ample potential
for development,” he said. He would help Siriwardena Maha Vidyalaya to
develop science and technology, he said.
Senior Minister for Scientific Affairs Prof Tissa Vitharana said
Mother Lanka is proud of her children such as Dr Gunapala who is a
scientist of world repute. He said “we have children who can be of great
use to the country but are set aside without facilities.
Telecommunication and Information Technology Minister Ranjith
Siyambalapitiya and Pradeshiya Sabha chairman K D Wasantha were also
present.
