Sparkling knock of 128 by Bhagya Palihawadana

A brilliant knock of 128 with 15 fours and one six off 171 balls by Bhagya Palihawadana helped Trinity College, Kandy to score a first innings win over Gurukula Vidyalaya, Kelaniya in their schools Under 19 Division one cricket match concluded at the Asgiriya Stadium, Kandy yesterday.

Bhagya Palihawadana usually a very aggressive batsmen realising the situation somewhat curbed his attacking play in scoring his maiden century. He put on 100 runs for the first wicket with Lakshitha Dasanayake in 18.4 overs.

This opening stand turned out to be a solid foundation and helped Trinity College to overhaul their opponents total.

On the first day Gurukula Vidyalaya did well to score 218 for 8 declared but batted for 83.3 overs.

Kasun Madusanka scored a patient 80 with 5 fours off 214 balls. He was involved in a third wicket stand of 95 with Roshan Anuruddha who made 54 with 4 fours and a six facing 114 balls.

At stumps Gurukula Vidyalaya had made 148 for 6 in 41 overs batting time after the Trinitians had applied closure.
