The nation's honour and gratitude is due to the Parliamentarians who
voted for the impeachment motion safeguarding people's sovereignty and
democracy, North Central Province Chief Minister S M Ranjith Samarakoon
said.
He said their patriotic action will go down in the country's history
in letters of gold as it has defeated all attempts by local and
international conspirators in league with the Tamil Diaspora to
destablise the country and inconvenience the government by creating a
rift between the judiciary and the legislature, he said.
He said the people have not forgotten the manner in which the JVP
which opposed the impeachment, disrupted the work of the judiciary and
law and order by using the infamous chit during the 1971 and 1988
periods.
"The UNP daydream of making the impeachment a scapegoat to ride to
power, too had now been shattered," he said.
