Central Environmental Authority (CEA) Chairman Wimal Rubasinghe made an inspection tour at Sri Lanka's first ever sanitary landfill site in Dompe recently. The aim of the inspection tour was to decide future investment on the site and to look into the quality and standard of the construction being progressed.

The Dompe sanitary landfill site will be the first integrated solution to the solid waste management in Sri Lanka using advanced state of the art sanitary landfill technology. The second phase of the project is in progress. This landfill site is being constructed with the technical expertise and financial assistance from the Korean Government, through the KOICA. The KOICA has facilitated USD 4.5 million as a grant with a counter part funding of USD 1.5 million from the Sri Lankan government for this project.

Central Environmental Authority Environment Education and Awareness Unit Deputy Director General Jayawilal Fernando, representatives of the KOICA and technicians of the project also participated.
