Second phase of Dompe landfill project in progress

Central Environmental Authority (CEA) Chairman Wimal Rubasinghe made
an inspection tour at Sri Lanka's first ever sanitary landfill site in
Dompe recently. The aim of the inspection tour was to decide future
investment on the site and to look into the quality and standard of the
construction being progressed.
The Dompe sanitary landfill site will be the first integrated
solution to the solid waste management in Sri Lanka using advanced state
of the art sanitary landfill technology. The second phase of the project
is in progress. This landfill site is being constructed with the
technical expertise and financial assistance from the Korean Government,
through the KOICA. The KOICA has facilitated USD 4.5 million as a grant
with a counter part funding of USD 1.5 million from the Sri Lankan
government for this project.
Central Environmental Authority Environment Education and Awareness
Unit Deputy Director General Jayawilal Fernando, representatives of the
KOICA and technicians of the project also participated.
