New CJ pledges to uphold dignity of judiciary

New Chief Justice President’s Counsel Mohan Peiris yesterday pledged to uphold the dignity and the independence of the judiciary and maintain the highest standards of judicial integrity for the benefit of the people.

He appreciated the welcome accorded to him by members of the official and unofficial Bar, and judicial officers, and added that he would need their support and cooperation in his endeavour to maintain the highest standards of the courts, and the justice system.

The new Chief Justice was blessed in his chambers by clergy of all faiths before assuming office.
