Ten prisoners escape from Avissawella Remand Prison

Ten prisoners escaped from the Avissawella Remand Prison early yesterday. The prisoners escaped after assaulting three jailors.

The prisoners had been brought to the Avissawella Prison from the Kuruwita Prison, investigations revealed.

The suspects were remanded for alleged rape and robberies.

Avissawella Police launched a search operation to nab the prisoners.

Meanwhile, a prisoner being brought to the Panadura Magistrate’s Court from the Kalutara Prison, in the prison bus, escaped on Wednesday.

Investigations revealed he had broken the bars of the window and escaped.

Investigations are on to arrest the prisoner.
