Road safety workshops for private bus crew

The National Transport Commission (NTC) will conduct training
workshops and awareness programmes on road safety for private bus
owners, drivers and conductors in Trincomalee and Ampara districts
parallel to the Deyata Kirula national development programme.
Twenty five drivers and 30 conductors will attend the training and
awareness programmes to be held today and tomorrow at the Sarvodaya
District Centre, Puliyankulama, Trincomalee.
Meanwhile, 40 drivers and 60 conductors will attend training and
awareness programmes to be held at the Co-operative Reception Hall on
January 12 and 13.
The qualities that should be maintained to provide a better service,
public relations, minimising road accidents, protection of women and
children and preventing abuse in buses will be main areas of discussion,
while fuel management, discipline and other technical issues will also
be discussed.
NTC chairman Roshan Gunawardene said it is important to educate all
on road safety and relevant matters with the East becoming a hub due to
the rapid social and economic development taking in the province since
the end of conflict.
The NTC initiated a series of workshops district wise to educate
private bus owners, drivers and conductors to minimise road accidents
involving private buses.
"The programme is aimed at encouraging private bus drivers to obey
road rules and minimise traffic violations," he said. |
