Competitive exam to recruit Management Assistants

All arrangements have been made to hold a competitive examination to recruit new Public Management Assistants to the government service, Public Administration and Home Affairs Minister W. D. J. Seneviratne said recently.

The examination will be held on January 26. The Competitive Examinations for recruiting new Grama Seva Niladhari Officers will also be held at the end of next month, he added.

Addressing a special meeting of senior government officers at the Public Administration Ministry, Minister Seneviratne said the candidates who had applied for these competitive examinations last year will have the opportunity to sit for these exams.

“We have received over 125,000 applications for the said examination and we will be selecting only 4,088 to the post of Grade III Public Management Assistants according to the marks which they receive at the competitive examination.

“We have granted 5,062 appointments in the Public Management Assistant Service during the last two years and 4,881 out of the total have reported to work”, Minister Seneviratne said.

Meanwhile, the competitive examination for recruiting new Grama Seva Niladhari Officers will be held in February and it has received around 200,000 applications. Nearly 4,000 vacancies of Grama Seva Niladhari Officers have been already identified from several areas of the country and arrangements will be made to fill those vacancies within the next few months.

Those who passed the competitive examination held for recruiting officers to the Administration Service will be interviewed this month and 114 among them are to be recruited as Public Administrative Officers. “We have recruited 53 translators and they have been placed on duty since January 01.

There are 10 Sinhala-Tamil translators, 34 Sinhala-English translators and nine Tamil-English translators among them. Measures are in place to recruit a further 136 translators before the end of this year”, the minister said. All arrangements have been made to recruit 775 Information Technology Officers to the public service, he added.
