Applications called for Quranic Olympiad
The second national Quranic Olympiad of Mustafa International
University, Sri Lanka chapter will be held next year.
The Olympiad is open to students of Arabic colleges. Preliminary
competitions will be held in five regional centres. Winners will be
awarded certificates and prizes. The most outstanding winner will be
able to participate in the international competition to be held in the
Islamic Republic of Iran.
The five regional competitions will be held as follows:Western and
Southern Provinces- January 27, Northern and North Central Provinces -
February 3, Eastern Province - February 10, North Western Province -
February 24 and the finals and the closing ceremony on March 3.

Paldeniya Circuit Court magistrate Ranjani Gamage.
The accused is a resident of Mahawela.

The People's Bank Pundaluoya branch distributed exercise books among
children of three government schools in Kothmale recently.
The children attend Halgoilla Vidyalaya, Thirappanekanda Vidyalaya
and Hedunuveva Primary School.
The bank's Buddhist Association had organised the ceremony.

The budget proposal of the Alawwa Pradeshiya Sabha for 2013 was
unanimously adopted.
The budget proposal was forwarded by chairman Sandya Kumara (UPFA)
and seconded by opposition leader Mohan Wickramanayake (UNP).
Bodies of fishermen found

The bodies of two fishermen drowned in the Manakkattiya Wewa when
their boat capsised on Decmber 27 were retrieved by Galenbindunuwewa
Police yesterday.
Investigations are continuing directed by OIC Inspector Chanaka de
Silva.
Sugetha Swara dehena on Jan 5
Sugeetha Swara Dehena, a musical extravaganza with the participation
of Victor Rathnayake, Visharada Amarasiri Peiris and Visharada Deepika
Priyadharshani will be held at the Bishop's College auditorium, Colombo
on January 5 at 6.30pm.
This is organised by 78, 82 B, com Alumni Association of the Kelaniya

SLMC Delegates Conference
The 24th Delegates Conference of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress will
be held at the S. De S. Jayasinghe Hall in Dehiwela today at 10 am. Over
1,000 delegates from all over the country are expected to attend this
conference, which will be held in two sessions.
Introduction of the new office bearers, nominations to the Working
Committee, presentations of the annual report of the Secretary General
and the Treasurer, address of the Chairman and amendments to the Party
constitution are a few items listed in the Agenda for the first session.
Green chemistry seminar
A training seminar on green chemistry will be conducted by the
Institute of Chemistry Ceylon at the Rubber and Plastic Institute,
Rajagiriya on January 4 from 8.30am to 4pm.
Prize awarding ceremony
Winners of the 2011 Best Entrepreneur competition (NCP region)
conducted by the Small Industries Development Unit of the Youth Affairs
and Skills Development Ministry will receive awards and prizes at a
ceremony at the CTC Hall, Anuradhapura on December 21.
Deputy Minister Duminda Dissanayake will be the Chief Guest.

The Japan International Cooperation Agency Alumni Association of Sri
Lanka will hold a blood donation campaign on January 19 from 8.30am at
the National Blood Centre, Narahenpita, Colombo5 to bestow merit on
