The Ceylon Fisheries Corporation (CFC), which was a non-profitable
venture, is progressing as a profitable institution reducing its loss to
Rs 9 million this year. All measures are in place to develop CFC as a
profitable institution by next year, Fisheries and Aquatic Resources
Development Minister Dr Rajitha Senaratne said.
The CFC recorded an over Rs 104 million loss in 2009. In 2010 it was
Rs 59 million and Rs 23 million last year, the minister said.
He said there are 123 CFC fish stalls islandwide. A number of mobile
vans selling fish have been setup in several areas of the country. This
helps maintain a stable price, he said.
CFC chairman Maheel Senaratne said the progress was reported under
the guidance of Minister Senaratne.
"The Fisheries Ministry has taken all measure to make CFC a
profitable venture, he said.
"The CFC has not obtained any funds form the Treasury or the
Fisheries Ministry for maintenance," Senaratne said. |
