Children lack thyroxine

One child out of 2,000 in the Southern Province is suffering from the lack of thyroxine, said Karapitiya Medical Faculty doctor Manjula Hettiarachchi.

He said that he tested blood samples of 41,993 children born in 2011 in the province and the tests show the lack of thyroxine in children.

Dr Hettiarachchi said thyroxine is an essential hormone for the growth of children.
