The Agriculture Ministry has taken measures to obtain the support of
university academics to develop the country's agriculture sector,
Agriculture Minister Mahinda Yapa Abeywardane.
Participating at a meeting on National Agriculture Research Plan at
the Hector Kobbekaduwa Agrarian Research and Training Institute,
Minister Abeywardane said a large number of Sri Lankan intellectuals,
including scientists, render an invaluable service to many countries.
“But, Sri Lanka does not get the maximum use of intellectuals
dedicated to serve the motherland,” he said. “The Agriculture Ministry
has taken measures to get the support of university academics for
agricultural research activities. Academics need not worry about the
expenses as President Mahinda Rajapaksa agreed with this initiative. The
Treasury will provide funds for research,” the minister said.
Abeywardane requested university academics to support this effort.
He said the country was now at peace, but there was a group trying to
create problems in the country.
Agriculture Ministry Secretary W Sakalasooriya, Additional Secretary
D B T Wijeratne and Heads of Universities also participated. |
