Nachchaduwa’s low lying areas inundated

Several low lying areas in the Nachchaduwa Divisional Secretariat Division were inundated due to the overflowing of Malwathuoya following heavy rains experienced on December 22 night.

Food and accommodation have been supplied to the displaced, Divisional Secretary J W S Kithsiri said. The affected areas are Hidogama, Parakkulama, Hen Ela and Madwalagama.

The Divisional Secretary assisted by irrigation and police officials made arrangements to drain out the flood waters by clearing blocked waterways and drains.The water level of the Nachchaduwa tank stood at 26.9 feet by December 23 morning.
