SLITHM, SLF offer Craft level courses

The Sri Lanka Foundation Institute(SLF), together with Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism & Hospitality Management (SLITHM), launched the much awaited Craft level certificate courses in the basic discipline of Front Office, House Keeping, Kitchen Production and Cookery, and Restaurant and Bar in order to enhance employability in the Tourism and Hospitality Industry.

“The American Chamber of Commerce is also contributing as a strategic partner who provides industrial support to the Tourism and Hospitality Management Unit of Sri Lanka,” Foundation, Chairman, SLF, Ranjith Bandara said. The tourism sector is growing with increasing momentum, thus this certification course that will go for a three month period at the cost of Rs 20,000 will be timely to provide the tourism sector with quality service.

Meanwhile, according to the Chairman of SLITHM Chandra Mohotti, there is a high demand in the Tourism Industry and an even more rapidly increasing lack of staff in the tourism sector.

“Thus while contributing to the unemployment issue in the country, this certification course will bring in the staff we have been waiting for,” he said.

He also said that the hospitality industry requires soft skills, while the institute will provide them with the necessary training to embark on a career through soft skills in the Hospitality Industry

“These programmes will cover both theory and practical aspects in Hopitality Management,” he said.

Consultant Academic Affairs, SLF, Samantha Rathnayake also said that the SLF contains state-of -the- art facilities to address this course, including a four star kitchen and SLF offers a wide range of academic programmes in dynamic fields namely, Social and Institutional Development, Psychology and Counselling, Business and Enterprise Management, Language and ICT and Digital Film Academy.
