The Ranajayapura housing project, Ipalogama is one such project, carried out by the Defence Ministry on the advice of the Defence Secretary, to provide welfare facilities to War Heroes.

Twenty three War Heroes, including a disabled War Hero were allocated shops on the occasion. Twelve Army, five Navy and six Air Force War Heroes will commence their businesses at the two storey shopping complex at the Ipalogama housing scheme.

The Defence Secretary addressing recipients of business premises of the shopping complex constructed at the Ranajayapura Housing Scheme, said Ranajayapura is a concept under the Mahinda Chinthana programme, the President’s vision for the country’s future. Ranajayapura is the largest ever housing project built for the War Heroes, consisting of 1,509 completed houses with all modern amenities.

He said the houses were constructed after obtaining a bank loan which has to be settled by the Defence Ministry. Apart from the allocations of the loan, the government allocated millions for infrastructure facilities at the housing scheme. Besides the shopping complex, the housing scheme includes a super market, a Bank of Ceylon branch, a primary school a daycare unit, nursery, community hall and a hospital together with infrastructure facilities, including pipe borne water, electricity, roads etc.
