A gem businessman travelling to Kandy for a business transaction in his car with a friend on Tuesday was forced to halt the vehicle at Pahuru Oya, Dompe, by his friend who relieved him of over Rs 1.4 million.The man had driven off after pushing him out of the vehicle.

Dompe Police investigations revealed the friend accompanying the businessman had got two other persons to get into the vehicle after getting him to stop the car near the Malwana Post Office on the pretext of giving them a lift. The three had commited the heist.

Investigations are continuing.
