SL's new ambassador to Iran
President Mahinda Rajapaksa appointed Mohammed Faizal Razeen as Sri
Lanka's new ambassador to Iran.
His appointment has now been approved by the High Posts Committee in
Parliament, and has also been endorsed by the government of the Republic
of Iran.
Hailing from a family of leading lawyers, High Court Judge Razeen is
the youngest son of Al Haj A L M Razeen, himself a leading lawyer of the
Hambantota Bar and an Acting District Judge, who completed 50 years
service to the Bar before his demise, and Inthan Razeen.
Six of his brothers and a sister are also lawyers. Razeen, who
decided early in his legal career to specialize in Criminal Law, also
served as an Acting District Judge for the past 25 years.
Additionally he also served as a Commissioner of a Presidential
Commission as well as Chairman in a succession of Public Corporations
and Boards such as the Freight Bureau, Lakdiva Engineering, Welfare
Benefits Board, National Transport Medical Centre and the Gem and
Jewellery Research Institute.
Razeen is the author of many books in Sinhala such as Mamai Obe
Nayaka Thumai, Eida Me Wenasa (A book of Sinhala poetry), Deva Theenduwa
(A real life recollection of the 2004 tsunami) and Pathaala Nayakaya (A
book of Sinhala Prose).
He has also been actively engaged in Social Service activities in his
hometown and has been the driving force behind two major post tsunami,
privately funded building projects, Tsunamigama and Razeenpura. He shall
leave shortly to take up his post in Tehran.
