This year the seminar focused on Jeet Kune Do and Hybrid Kickboxing
for MMA and Filipino Kali Knife (SKD). This 3rd seminar in Sri Lanka
conducted by Sifu Mark from USA.
This workshop was one of the events conducted around the world
commemorating the 72nd birth anniversary of JKD founder Bruce Lee that
falls on November 27.
Workshop conductor, Sifu Mark Stewart was a private student of Ted
Wong who was Bruce Lee's closet top student and best friend. Sifu Ted
was with Lee in his last six years and being his sparring partner knew
the final states of Original Jeet Kune Do more than anyone else in the
world. After Sifu Ted Wong's death in 2010, his private student Sifu
Mark has become an international authority of Original Jeet Kune Do.
Even though JKD, a scientific, artistic, and a highly philosophical
system, is a popular martial art throughout the world, original JKD it
is not yet well and formally established in Sri Lanka. Therefore, we
hope that this workshop will address this deficit while contributing to
a mentally and physically healthy, well disciplined generation.
An another interesting fact is that JKD in Sri Lanka was first
thought by martial artists who formulated it from Burce Lee's movies,
reviews, and a handful of books, and incorporating Kung Fu and in some
cases Karate as well. This more theatrical JKD with fierce sounds and
flashy high-flying kicks is not the JKD that Bruce built during his last
six years with Ted Wong after closing all his classes. This personal
system of Bruce was termed Jun Fan Jeet Kune Do. This workshop attempted
to demystify many myths about the martial art and clarity facts about
Jeet Kune Do.
